In your face, Floyd

HBO boxing announcer Larry Merchant delivered the knockout of the night after Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s controversial knockout of Victor Ortiz (at right in photo) Saturday in Las Vegas. “I wish I was 50 years younger, I’d kick your ass,” Merchant told Mayweather (at left in photo) while trying to get the boxer to explain his legal, but questionable, punches that ended the fight. Merchant, 80, explained later: “I was just trying to get him to tell his side of the story, but something kicked in and he attacked me personally,” he said. “And I combusted. At the moment I meant it. Later … I said I couldn’t have kicked his ass, but I would have tried.” Mayweather was in Merchant’s face, screaming profanities and telling him he should be fired when he decided that enough was enough. – AP
