Tigers hold off Wildcats
Lewis and Clark (6-0, 2-0) built a comfortable first-half lead and held off a late Mt. Spokane rally to beat the Wildcats 3-2 in Greater Spokane League soccer Friday afternoon at Hart Field.
The Tigers raced out to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Julia Moravec and Sara Nanny in the first five minutes. Shelby Lambdin’s goal in the 35th minute for a 3-0 lead proved the winner.
Mt. Spokane (3-3, 0-2) hardly surrendered. The Wildcats’ Rachel Jones scored in the 67th minute and Alyssa Lolyd added a goal 3 minutes later to produce the final score.
Gonzaga Prep 1, Shadle Park 0: Colleen Lindsay’s goal in the fifth minute was all the Bullpups (7-1, 2-0) needed in a win over the host Highlanders (3-4, 0-2).
Madi Payne’s shot was saved by Shadle goalkeeper Ashley Rothrock, but Lindsay put home the rebound.
Mead 3, University 2: Brianna Bennett scored in the 78th minute to break a tie and give the Panthers (6-1, 1-1) a win over the host Titans (0-2, 0-2).
Anna Kessler and Kara Marbury scored the first two goals to give Mead a 2-0 lead, but University’s Shala Weiler and Jen Hammond scored before halftime to knot the game at 2.
Central Valley 10, Rogers 0: Sara Grozdanich and Maya Anger scored two goals apiece to lead the Bears (6-1, 2-0) past the host Pirates (1-2, 0-2).
Central Valley scored five goals in each half.
Ferris 3, North Central 0: Caitlin Prothe scored two goals to guide the Saxons to victory over the visiting Indians.
Athina Brown also scored for Ferris (4-1, 2-0 GSL) and Maya Bowton had two assists. NC fell to 2-3 and 1-1.
Volleyball
Greater Spokane League: Sam Hill had a team-high 17 kills, four aces, 19 digs and five blocks to guide North Central (2-1 league) to a 25-16, 24-26, 25-13, 21-25, 15-10 win over visiting Shadle Park (1-2). Darby Santos had a team-high 14 kills for the Highlanders.
• Lindsey Stockton had 17 kills to lead Gonzaga Prep (3-0) to a 25-16, 25-17, 26-24 sweep of host Lewis and Clark (0-3).
