Economic woes complex

So you’ve noticed that you are still unemployed or that your stock portfolio isn’t doing great recently. Do you really think that President Obama is responsible for that, just because you heard someone say so? You’re naive if so.

It has become clear that no one truly comprehends the complexity of our economy (let alone the world economy), so why should we suddenly believe that any one person has all the right answers or all the wrong ones? Historically, the economy ebbs and flows without much dependence on policy.

Remember the Bush tax cuts of the early 2000s (before deficit-hawking became popular)? It’s tempting to say that it was those cuts that pushed us into our current predicament, but things just aren’t that simple.

Please lay off the finger-pointing and focus on surviving until things turn around. They will. Regardless of who is controlling policy. And when things do turn around, that’s when we need to focus on the deficit – not now when so many people are suffering. Oh, and if you insist on taking a stand, at least read some economists beforehand (search “best economics blogs” on the Web).
