Green plants help planet
The recent article by Mr. Cargill on water rates (“Water rates soak families”) was informative but did not address the underlying issue of governing policy, i.e., should the city supply necessary services and recoup the costs on an as-used basis, or should it set these taxes in such a fashion so as to attempt to manipulate behavior?
In this instance, the guise is to preserve the aquifer under the code word sustainability. Were there evidence that the aquifer isn’t being adequately recharged, one would think the city would first look to the millions of gallons it pumps but can’t account for, presumably leakage.
In addition, rather than implicitly criticize those willing to support plant life, they should praise them. May I remind citizens of the basic science that teaches that such greenery takes in carbon dioxide and discharges oxygen.
Now that the EPA has declared CO2 an enemy, this should prompt our city officials to immediately reverse this ill-thought-out discrimination against those willing to support the environment in this fashion.
