What do schools teach?

I do not consider myself the smartest senior citizen on the block, and I hope someone will tell me where I am wrong, but I am very concerned about the future of our country. Why? Consider the following:

1. I read that some schools no longer teach American History and the Constitution. How are our young people to know and appreciate our country and people that founded it and wrote the Constitution among many other important events?

2. I read that some schools will no longer teach handwriting. This I find unbelievable for many reasons too numerous to mention here.

3. I read that some schools, many in fact, no longer have classes that teach basic economics. Obviously, this has trickled down to our members of Congress and our president, who seem to exhibit a complete lack of understanding of the basic principles of economics, namely one cannot spend more money than you take in. The disregard of this principle has led to our current financial crisis.

I begin to wonder just what do the schools teach these days? In my opinion this lack of education in these areas can only adversely affect the future of our nation and its people.
