Mt. Spokane sweeps NC in key volleyball match

Kennadie Clute piled up nine kills, seven digs, six aces and five assists Tuesday night as Mt. Spokane defeated visiting North Central in a key Greater Spokane League 3A volleyball match.

Mt. Spokane (3-1 GSL) is ranked No. 1 in the Seattle Times’ poll while the Indians (2-2) are ranked 10th.

Ixchelle Oleson added a match-bet 11 kills and Annie Arnzen had 13 assists and three aces for the Wildcats.

Sam Hill topped the Indians with eight kills and four blocks.

Also in the GSL, Darby Santos had team highs of 11 kills, 17 assists and 10 aces as Shadle Park (2-2) knocked visiting Gonzaga Prep (3-1) out of first place with a sweep. Shadle broke from a 21-all tie in the first game and a 12-all tie in the second game. Kasey Perisho added a season-high eight kills for Shadle. Lindsay Stockton had 10 kills and Clare Akers 10 digs for the Bullpups. … Maddy Underwood had eight kills and three aces and Paige Montgomery added four blocks as first-place Mead (4-0) recorded a sweep at Rogers. Sydney Roberts had 11 assists and Rachel Flint 11 digs for the Pirates (1-3). … Kayleigh Valley powered for 20 kills and Paige Thornton had seven blocks to lead visiting University (2-2) to a 3-1 win at Ferris (0-4). … Sam Block had 11 aces and four blocks in Central Valley’s 3-0 win at Lewis and Clark (0-4). Mikayla Ness added 10 kills and Erika Bowden 13 digs for the Bears (3-1).

• Jamie Weisner finished with 19 kills and seven blocks as Clarkston (3-1) won the final two games to topple visiting Deer Park 3-1 in the Great Northern League. KC McConnell added 10 digs and six aces for the Bantams. Kimmie Brazington led the Stags (3-2) with 10 kills, 20 digs, eight aces and three blocks. … Also in the GNL, Liz Gill finished with nine kills and five aces to carry Cheney (4-0) to a sweep over visiting East Valley (1-4). Kendall Case added 14 assists for the Blackhawks. … Latasha Lofton had seven aces and six kills, and Sequoia Lofton added 14 kills and two blocks as West Valley (2-2) recorded a sweep over visiting Medical Lake (0-5).

• Ashley Jibby totaled 13 kills and 16 digs as visiting Post Falls (4-1) outlasted Coeur d’Alene 3-1 in Inland Empire League 5A play. Tori Bertsch added 26 assists for the Trojans. The Vikings are 1-3 in league.

• Taylor Anderson had 13 kills and Marissa Payton added 30 digs to guide Moscow (2-0) to a 3-1 win over visiting Lakeland (0-3) in an IEL 4A match.

• Melissa Trost’s 10 kills and seven aces guided host Priest River (2-2) to a sweep of Timberlake in the Intermountain League. Kelly Madsen had seven kills and three aces for the Tigers (2-2).

Boys soccer

Timmy Mueller scored a pair of first-half goals to launch Post Falls (5-0, 3-0) toward a 5-1 win at Lake City (5-4, 2-1) in IEL 5A play. Cole Jesienouski had two assists in the first half and Ruben Briseno added one goal and one assist. … In other 5A play, Kevin Hampson set up two goals to help Coeur d’Alene (8-3, 2-3) to a 6-1 win over visiting Lewiston (1-6, 0-3). Adam Garman, Graison Le and Adam Borsheim added one goal and one assist apiece for the Vikings, who will complete their 5A league play on Thursday against Lake City.

Girls soccer

Meaghan Bare scored off Maddie Jessic’s corner kick at 73 minutes to allow host Lake City (1-3-1, 0-1-1) to forge a 1-all tie with Post Falls (2-2-1, 0-1-1) in IEL 5A play. PF, down one player because of a red card, scored at 66 minutes when Erica Simpson gathered up a ball bouncing around the box.

• Briana Estrellabo fed Alexa Shaw for the winning goal at 66 minutes as Cheney (3-3, 3-1) moved into a tie for first place in the Great Northern League with a 2-1 win over visiting East Valley (4-5, 3-2). … Also in the GNL, Haley Groenenthal scored off a pass from Brittni Mauro to open a seven-goal second half as West Valley (4-1, 3-1) ran away for an 8-0 win over Medical Lake (0-7, 0-5). Mauro finished with two goals and one assist. Sara Marro opened the scoring at 16 minutes after a crossing pass from Gail Gallaher. … Kellyn Zipse and Katelyn Sly scored late goals to give Clarkston (2-3, 2-1) a 2-0 win over visiting Deer Park (3-4, 1-3).

• Courtney Windju scored at 60 minutes to cap Sandpoint’s (2-5, 1-0) 2-0 win over visiting Moscow (4-3, 2-1) in an IEL 4A match.
