Spokane sheriff’s deputy resigns in fraud probe

Associated Press
A Spokane County sheriff’s deputy under investigation in a federal housing fraud case has resigned. KXLY reports Deputy Brett Peterson told the sheriff last week he was quitting because he didn’t want his mistakes to reflect poorly on the sheriff’s office. Peterson is a 14-year veteran who bought a home as part of the federal Officer Next Door Program that allows officers to buy homes at half price to help fight crime in some neighborhoods. Peterson is accused of violating terms of the agreement. He’s expected to appear in federal court Thursday on a plea agreement.
