Area roundup: Undefeated NIC rallies past CCS in soccer

Hayley Smith and Anna Valentine scored twice apiece Wednesday as host North Idaho rallied for a 4-2 nonconference women’s soccer win over Community Colleges of Spokane in a matchup of unbeaten teams.

Ali Floyd and Nikki Caudill scored 1 minute, 9 seconds apart in the first half to give CCS (7-1) a 2-0 lead. Smith scored just before halftime for the Cardinals (10-0), and Valentine scored in the 62nd and 64th minutes.

NIC has outscored rivals 53-7 this year. CCS had allowed just one goal this year.

Volleyball

Brigitte Lowe finished with 11 kills and 11 digs as CC Spokane (18-4, 3-1) cruised to a sweep of Columbia Basin (8-13, 0-5) at Spokane Falls CC.

Joni Nagy added 20 assists and 11 digs for the Sasquatch.

Arena football

The Spokane Shock added linebacker Frantz Joseph to their roster. Joseph (6-foot-2, 245 pounds) had 19 1/2 tackles as a member of the UFL’s Hartford Colonials in 2010.
