Obituary: Danielson, Jeanne

DANIELSON, Jeanne (McDougall)

Jeanne McDougall Danielson was born June 20, 1922 on the family farm in Benge, Washington to Ida Ethel Ellis and Benjamin Harrison McDougall.

She was the youngest of five sisters, Belva Melston, Irma Kuesterman, Eloise Freeborg, and Willene Oberg who preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Alvin Bernard Danielson on August 12, 1983.

She is survived by her children, A. Greg Danielson (Janet), Donna J. Halvorson (Ron); grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Meisberger, Erin Danielson, Matthew Danielson, Erik Halvorson (Urmi), Christopher Halvorson and Halvor Halvorson.

In addition, Jeanne is also survived by two great-grand- children, Jack and Katie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jeanne graduated from Lewis and Clark High School, Class of 1941 and was a scholarship student at the University of Puget Sound.

She was the first of her family to graduate from college.

During her time at UPS, Jeanne was editor of the Tamanawas yearbook, sports editor for the Puget Sound Trail, a member of Kappa Phi and played on the Field Hockey Team.

She was active in a number of other activities before graduating in 1945.

Most importantly during her time at UPS, she met her husband, Al, whom she married on August 24, 1946.

Together they built their cabin at Lower Twin Lakes, Idaho, where they would enjoy summer, swimming and water skiing almost every day.

After returning to Spokane in 1948, Jeanne attended Whitworth College, graduating with a Master’s degree in education and began her teaching career.

She taught at several elementary schools for Spokane School District 81 but spent most of her classroom time at Browne Elementary.

She was one of the first teachers to do “Newspapers in the Classroom” with the Spokesman-Review.

She loved teaching and had many wonderful times with her students.

The family would especially like to thank her friends and the staff at Rockwood Courtyard for their loving care of Jeanne.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 2:00 pm.

Remembrances can be made to Hospice of Spokane, Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation or the charity of one’s choice.
