Sidelined Boston Red Sox closer Andrew Bailey will have surgery on his right thumb that could sideline him for a significant portion of the season. The Red Sox said Tuesday “it was determined that Andrew should undergo surgery to reconstruct the ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb.”
Returned Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino returned to practice, hours after being released from the hospital following a weekend motorcycle crash. Petrino arrived at Razorback Stadium wearing a neck brace. The 51-year-old Petrino says he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. State law does not require an adult rider wear a helmet. Petrino also says he broke four ribs in his upper chest and cracked the outside of the C-2 vertebra in his back.

Appealed Cleveland Indians pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez is appealing his five-game suspension. Jimenez has requested an appeal of his ban for intentionally throwing at Colorado’s Troy Tulowitzki during a spring training game Sunday.

Sim pson in the Nevada trial that led to the celebrity football star’s conviction on armed robbery and kidnapping charges is suing Simpson’s Florida-based lead attorney in the case, claiming he was stiffed on promised fees. Gabriel Grasso alleges he was promised $250,000 to serve as local attorney, but he said Yale Galanter only paid him $15,000.
