Obituary: Knorr, Robert Edward

Age 81


KNORR, Robert Edward
(aka Nice Bob)

Entered into rest on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the age of 81.

He was born on January 18th, 1931 to Adolph and Helena Knorr of Spokane, WA both deceased.

He was the 2nd of four sons, his older brother Adolph (deceased) and two younger brothers Laurence and Herman.

He grew up and attended school in Spokane and graduated High school in 1949, from John R Rogers.

Upon graduation he entered the United States Air force and served as a mechanic in the motor pool, stationed in Japan during the occupation.

When he was discharged he returned to Spokane, and joined his father and two younger brothers in the family business Upriver Greenhouse.

He and his brothers took over the business in 1965 upon his father’s retirement.


In 1957 he met and married his wife Mildred.

In the following years he increased his family with children, two daughters Pattie and Barbara, and two sons Harvey living, and Ronald (deceased).

Bob enjoyed his life and family, spending time on family vacations, pool parties with family and friends, spending weekends at his lake home.

He also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle and his snowmobiles.

He was also a fan of Spokane’s two hockey teams, being season ticket holder for both.

He also enjoyed watching all sports on TV, especially NASCAR.

He was a lifetime member of VFW post #1474 and the Winter Knights snowmobile club.

These allowed him to give back to his community by helping with food drives, poppy sales, and serving on a snowmobile search and rescue team.
Bob’s family increased with the addition of a son-in-law Dave Hickman, and two daughter-in-laws Cindy, and Katharine.

He also has 15, Grandchildren and eight Great Grandchildren.

His family also increased with the addition of many nieces and nephews when his brothers married.
Bob found a love of travel in later years of his life, as he and Millie cruised to various ports of call on the 10 cruises they took, even returning to Japan, and then on to Russia.

He retired from the Greenhouse in 2010, when he and his brothers sold it to his son Ronald.

Bob and Millie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July of 2007
Bob will be laid to rest on Tuesday, April 10, at 1:00pm at RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME, 4305 N. DIVISION, SPOKANE, with interment to follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Viewing will be available on Monday April 9, from 12:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home.
