Obituary: Nixon, Clara Opal

Age 85

NIXON, Opal

Clara Opal Bell Nixon passed away on April 3, 2012 due to complications from pneumonia.

She was born on January 28, 1927 in Ector, TX to Arthur and Alta Bell.

She grew up on the family’s farm in Texas.

After her marriage to Hoyt Allen “Tex” Nixon in 1947, the couple moved from Texas to Pasco, WA and to Spokane in 1949 where they built their dream home on the corner of Ash and Queen, raised four children, and resided for 50 years.

Opal was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who was the constant and abiding foundation for the family as Tex drove trucks across the country as his occupation.

She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, gardening, and loved displaying pictures of family, dear friends, and especially her beloved, constant companion, Boston Terrier, Winky, around her home.

Opal and Tex moved to Fairwinds Retirement Community in 2004 where they lived until Tex’s death in 2005.

In 2008, she transferred to Riverview Assisted Living Community and then to Riverview Care Center, where she was residing at the time of her death.
Opal is survived by her children, Jackie Williams of Vancouver, WA, Linda Nixon of Deer Park, WA, Allen Nixon and his wife, Alice, of Aiea, HI, and James Nixon and his wife, Nikki, of Greenacres, WA.

She is the grandmother of six and the great-grandmother of five.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Tex, in 2005, and her brothers, Jack, in 1979, and Jiggs, in 2008.
The family wishes to thank the Riverview staff for their care and genuine affection during Opal’s residency, and the Providence Holy Family emergency team, hospitalists, and nurses of the Advanced Care Unit for their compassionate, expert care of Opal during her final days.
The family will receive guests during the Visitation at HAZEN AND JAEGER FUNERAL HOME, 1306 N. MONROE ST., SPOKANE, from Noon until 4:00PM on Friday, April 6, 2012.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2012, at 11:00AM, at the funeral home.

Interment at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley, will follow the service.
