In brief: Suspect pleads guilty in Colville man’s killing

The last of three suspects pleaded guilty Tuesday to helping kill a Colville man last July during a botched robbery.

Collette M. Pierce, 25, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, and Superior Court Judge Al Nielson sentenced her to 15 years in prison for the killing of 63-year-old Gordon Feist, Stevens County Prosecutor Tim Rasmussen said.

Both Jesse J. Fellman-Shimmin, 27, and Eric L. Booth, 26, previously pleaded guilty. Fellman-Shimmin received 25 years and Booth just over 26 ½ years for their parts in the killing.

Pierce, Booth and Fellman-Shimmin planned to rob Feist of guns and money on July 17, but Booth told authorities he panicked and shot Feist twice in the head.

Man arrested after midnight pursuit

A man who served three years in prison for stalking and witness tampering could be headed back there. He was arrested after midnight following a police pursuit where he reportedly backed into a Spokane Valley police officer’s patrol car.

Gary L. Dodge, 43, was arrested after ditching a 1995 Chevy Monte Carlo in downtown Spokane following a vehicle pursuit that began on westbound Interstate 90 in Spokane Valley, Spokane County Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Craig Chamberlin said.

The incident began just after midnight when Spokane Valley police Officer Nathan Bohanek attempted to stop the Monte Carlo on I-90 near Park Road. As Bohanek approached the driver, he sped away from the traffic stop, Chamberlin said.

Bohanek radioed the situation in and followed the Monte Carlo. The driver lost control on the Broadway Avenue off-ramp and slid sideways into the shoulder.

Dodge then reversed, hitting and disabling Bohanek’s patrol vehicle.

With several other agencies alerted, officers found Dodge’s Monte Carlo running but unoccupied in the alley near Pittsburg Street and First Avenue.

Deputy Jason Karnitz responded to the area and saw Dodge walking in an alley near his vehicle. Dodge ran, but Karnitz quickly caught him and took him into custody, Chamberlin said.

Dodge was booked into the Spokane County Jail on the charges of first-degree assault, felony eluding, hit and run, obstructing, driving on a suspended license and two charges of drug possession. He also had active warrants for escape from community custody, domestic violence assault and driving on a suspended license.
