Area roundup: Eastern men sign all-state guard Dorsey

City College of San Francisco all-state guard Ivan Dorsey, a former and future teammate of Eastern Washington forward Collin Chiverton, signed a letter of intent to attend EWU, the school announced Wednesday night.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Dorsey averaged 12.9 points in leading the Rams to a 27-3 record in the 2011-12 season. The previous year, he and Chiverton helped CCSF to the 2010-11 California Community Colleges Athletic Association title and finish 32-1.

As a sophomore at CCSF, Dorsey was a first team all-state selection. The CCCAA also selected him to the All-Coast Conference (North Division) squad.

• Antwan Scott, who played the past two seasons at Ranger College, signed a letter of intent to attend Idaho.

Scott is a 6-foot-1, 170-pound guard from Wylie, Texas, who led the Rangers to a 20-10 record and the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference title while averaging 15.9 points per game on 43.7 percent shooting from the field.

Golf

Eastern Washington’s women’s golf team recorded its lowest three-round total of the season, shooting a 964 to finish 23rd out of 24 teams at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic at Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz. Iowa won with an 884

The Eagles return to the course in two weeks for the Big Sky Conference Championships.

Jayme Carbon was the top finisher for Eastern, shooting a 16-over 232 and tying for 53rd place.

Colorado State’s Brianna Espinoza was the medalist, shooting an 8-under 208.

Baseball

Community Colleges of Spokane split a NWAACC doubleheader at Spokane Falls with Blue Mountain Community College, dropping the opener 8-5 and winning the second game 10-0.

Levi Johnson (Mead) went the distance in Game 2, earning the win. Austin Bartleson had four hits on the day and Tyler Watkins had three for the Sasquatch.

Track and field

Community Colleges of Spokane athletes took the first four places in the women’s heptathlon at the Spokane Multievents at Spokane Falls.

Shayle Dezellem won the event with 4,378 points, followed by Jessika Hardgrove with 3,572, Makenzie Smith with 3,241 and Ashley Sharp with 3,187.

Jon Williams of CCS finished third in the men’s decathlon, finishing with 5,296 points. Spencer Wordell, competing unattached, won with 6,664 points.

• Two Idaho Vandals were recognized as WAC Track and Field Athletes of the Week. Distance runner Erica Digby was the women’s honoree, and thrower Andrey Levkiv was the men’s selection.

Softball

Oregon and Washington split a Pac-12 doubleheader in Eugene, Ore., with the Ducks winning the first game 5-3 and the Huskies winning the second game 6-3 in nine innings.
