In brief: Kiwanis bike helmet program Saturday

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Division 46 Kiwanis Clubs will host Paint-a-Helmet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Spokane County Interstate Fairgrounds, 404 N. Havana St., in Building C.

The children’s bicycle helmet program will provide free helmets to children ages 3 to 16, which they can paint and decorate. Volunteers will fit the helmets for the children and show parents how to maintain the proper fit.

Helmets will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.

Mirabeau Park trailhead needs some TLC

SPOKANE VALLEY – Volunteers are needed for cleanup and restoration projects at the Mirabeau Park trailhead from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. The Spokane River Forum, the Veterans Conservation Corps and the Spokane Canoe and Kayak Club are teaming up to finish the restoration project begun last fall with the installation of a new fence and repair of a trail down to the river.

Saturday’s tasks include cleanup of leaves and other debris, weeding and trail maintenance. The hillside will be hydroseeded with native grasses next week. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves and a leaf rake or steel gardening rake. Volunteers should meet at the Centennial Trail parking lot on Mirabeau Parkway across from CenterPlace.

Friday mobile food distribution planned

MILLWOOD – Millwood Community Presbyterian Church will host a mobile food distribution by Second Harvest from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

No appointment or documentation is necessary, but participants must come to the church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road, to receive food. Participants are encouraged to bring a box.

Millwood Community Presbyterian hosts the mobile distribution on the second Friday of the month.

DanceFest planned at West Valley High School

SPOKANE VALLEY – The eighth annual DanceFest will be April 28 in the West Valley High School auditorium, 8301 E. Buckeye Ave., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The event, sponsored by the Inland Northwest Dance Association, will showcase many forms of dance, including jazz, Scottish Highland, ballet, hip-hop, modern, cultural, tap and ballroom, and will be performed by people of all ages and abilities. The event will include workshops, vendors, a silent auction and raffle.

Light lunches and snacks will be available.
