Obituary: Best, Thelma Amelia (Clegg)

Age 89

BEST, Thelma Amelia (Clegg)
Born November 18, 1922 in Burdette, Alberta, Canada.
Summoned to Heaven on March 28th, 2012 from Spokane.

Thelma is survived by her children Tom Best (wife Peggy), Jerry Best (wife Sheila deceased) and Anne Steinmetz (husband Don), as well as eight grandchiildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Married 65 years to Herman Best, their marriage was an example of love and dedication.

Herman preceeded her in 2007.
Giving her life to Jesus early in her marriage, Thelma followed His example of love and service to everyone around her until the day of her death.

While she strove to put Jesus first, her family was a close second.

She expressed her love to her family in many ways but it was through her cooking that she will be remembered the most.

Thelma loved to cook for family and friends and her collection of cook books numbered in the hundreds.

Challenged from birth with a crippled left arm, Thelma never let it keep her from doing the things she set her heart to do.

One of those things was becoming a nurse.

Late in life, after her children were grown, Thelma set out to become an RN.

With her passion for the profession and her strong work ethic she acheived her goal and worked as an RN at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene, Oregon for many years.

Thelma loved to walk and she was out doing her route whenever the weather allowed.

Last year, at 88 years old and dealing with lung cancer, she finished Bloomsday with her daughter, grand daughter and great granddaughter and was planning to participate again this year.

With that in mind her family is going to put together “Thelma’s Team” for Bloomsday this year.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, May 5th at 3:00 pm in the South Hill Bible Church, 958 E. 29th Ave., Spokane, WA.
