Obituary: Shook, June Cecelia

Age 89

SHOOK, June Cecelia
6/27/1922 - April 9, 2012

Our beloved mother, June, passed away peacefully in the early evening of April 9, 2012.

She was born June 27, 1922 in Salinas, CA.

With the very loving care and support from Hospice of Spokane, her family was able to carry out her last wishes and that was to die at home.

The last two months of her life were spent at the home of her daughter Sharon and son-in-law Robert Colbert.

Her family was at her bedside as she took her last breath.

Ours was a very traditional mother.

A stay-at-home mom, she sent my brother and I off to school each morning with a hearty breakfast and welcomed us home in the afternoon with a special treat.

Her life was made of simple pleasures such as feeding the birds in her back yard and loving and caring for her dog.

After mom raised her children she worked at Rosauer’s Bakery for the next 20 years.

June was preceded in death by her husband, Robert whom she married in 1944 in San Francisco and her seven siblings.

She is survived by her son, John Robert Shook of Spokane; her daughter, Sharon Mather (Robert) of Colbert.

Thank you to Hospice of Spokane for helping my family get through this painful time.

They are absolute angels of mercy.
There will be no services, per Mom’s request.

Rest in peace, beautiful Mommie.

Now you can be with all of your loved ones in heaven.

God’s finger touched her
and she slipped away
From earth’s dark shadow
to a brighter day;
God saw the road was getting rough.
The hills were hard to climb;
He gently closed her weary eyes,
And whispered, “Peace be thine.

To a beautiful garden
this friend has gone,
To a land of perfect rest;
Though she is gone she still lives on
In the Garden of memory.
