WSU dance team wins national hip hop contest

Washington State University’s dance team, the Crimson Girls, has won top honors at a national hip-hop competition. “They hit all the beats. They had energy,” said Crimson Girls head coach Maggie Kazemba. “As soon as they finished, I thought, ‘We could actually win this.’” In winning the 2012 USA Collegiate Hip-Hop Dance Competition, which was held in Anaheim, Calif., March 18-19, the 14-member team donned black boots, vests and cut-off jean shorts. Intricate choreography, physical stamina and brash energy set WSU apart from the other teams. The dancers, ages 19-23, move fluidly as a unit, performing back flips, foot-stomps, drops and spins. The University of Missouri placed second and San Diego State University took third. You can read more about the team’s victory trip here.
