KAMPFER, James E.

James E. Kampfer was born to Erwin and Anna (Armstrong) Kampfer on June 5, 1925 in Lisbon, OH.


Jim served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII.

He attended flight school in Ypsilanti, MI and graduated with a Staff Sergeant rating.

He earned Silver Wings and received a high rating for skilled performance.

Jim was assigned as a turret gunner on a B-29.

His flight group flew 66 missions in the South Pacific.

After the war he attended Opa Locka Florida flight school.

He had a lifelong love of airplanes.
Jim is survived by his son Keven (Dawn) Kampfer of Gig Harbor, WA; sisters: Cora (John) Oana of Salem, OH, Lois (Charles) Dickey of Rogers, OH; brother Joseph (Janet) Kampfer of Sheffield Lake, OH; stepdaughters: Nancy (Rod) McLeod of Tiburon, CA, Sherrie (Roger) Haisley of Nine Mile Falls, WA; grandchildren: Eric (Staci) Haisley of Mead, WA, Heather (Rob) Ryan of Spokane, WA; and great-grandchildren: Adam, Alex, Anna and Arik.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mary (Curtis) Kampfer, his wife Claudia (Mongelluzzo) Kampfer and his brother Paul Kampfer.
Jim and Claudia owned and operated the Appliance Mart on North Wall in Spokane for many years.
