You can’t do that in the library.
Wait. Maybe you can. Come to the Spokane Public Library, 906 W. Main Ave., on April 28 and you can drink a beer from River City Brewing, listen to live music by 6-Foot Swing, eat some pizza from David’s.
You can probably even chat with your neighbor without being shushed.
It’s all part of You Can’t Do That in the Library, a fundraiser for the Spokane Public Library Foundation. The fun begins at 7 p.m.

Newsroom reunion
My other half has just started reading “Truth Like the Sun,” the new novel from former Spokesman- Review reporter Jim Lynch.
The novel tells a tale of intrigue set against the backdrop of the 1962 World’s Fair in Seattle.
One thing about reporters who write novels, they often name characters after their former newsroom colleagues. In this case, Lynch writes about an investigative reporter for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer named Bill Steele.
A reference to the former S-R reporting duo of Bill Morlin and Karen Dorn Steele? Perhaps. We’ll get the chance to ask Lynch when he comes back to town for a reading at 7 p.m. May 22 at Auntie’s Bookstore.
Hosting Lynch in this Q-and-A evening will be fellow S-R alum Jess Walter.
Free comics
Merlyn’s is once again joining in the fun of Free Comic Book Day. Twice.
The Spokane comic book store will give away free comic books on May 5 and 6. Patrons will be allowed to choose two free comics.
In addition, there will be local artists on hand to do free sketches for kids and appearances by several famous characters and henchmen, including Indiana Jones, the Joker and Darth Maul. Or, dress up on your own and enter the the Free Comic Book Day costume contest.
