There goes World Peace

Basketball: Lakers forward Metta World Peace has been ejected for elbowing Oklahoma City’s James Harden in the head.

World Peace was ejected for a flagrant foul late in the second quarter Sunday in Los Angeles.

World Peace had just dunked on a fast break and was celebrating his basket while running upcourt when he ran into Harden. While World Peace pounded his chest with his right arm, he threw his left elbow right over Harden’s shoulder and into the back of his head.

Harden dropped to the court and stayed down for about a minute.

Paterno honored at spring game

Football: Penn State alumni returning to campus this weekend for the annual spring football game had one more chance to honor the late Joe Paterno.

The Hall of Fame coach died at age 85 in January, less than three months after being diagnosed with lung cancer. The Blue-White spring game was the first event at Beaver Stadium in State College, Pa., since Paterno’s death.

Many people left bouquets of blue-and-white carnations at the life-sized, bronzed statue of Paterno outside the stadium. Others wore T-shirts that read “Joe Knows Football.”

Special Olympics of Pennsylvania held a 5K race Sunday in Paterno’s name and expected to raise nearly $300,000, triple the amount from last year.

Sue Paterno, the coach’s widow, thanked well-wishers for the outpouring of support.
