Obituary: Colistro, Tosca
Tosca Colistro passed away April 21, 2012 at the amazing age of 97. She was born in Vancouver, B.C. March 15, 1915 to Vincenzo and Rosina Masci. The family moved to Trail, B.C. when Tosca was a baby.
Tosca went to school in Trail and later attended dress making school in Vancouver. She graduated and worked in her parents’ store, the Gulch Light Lunch. One day, when she was working in the store, in came this handsome man from Spokane with three of his friends. They talked, he gave her a stick of gum and it was love at first sight. That man, of course, was Silvio Colistro and they soon married and moved to Spokane. Tosca and Silvio were married for nearly 60 years.
Tosca worked for the Crescent Department Store. She and Silvio also built, owned and operated the Bend Restaurant for over 35 years. Tosca was loved by all. She had many family members and friends who will all miss the aroma of baked bread and simmering spaghetti sauce, which for so many years, filled Tosca’s kitchen. Her greatest accomplishment was raising her three children: Sylvia, Wayne and Don. She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.
Tosca is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Wyman and her son Don (wife Mary). She was preceded in death by her husband Silvio, son Wayne, son-in-law Bill Wyman and her sister Mary Angerelli. Tosca has five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Tosca was a member of Mary Queen Parish and the Catholic Daughters. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 25, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service Service to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, April 26, at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 3423 E. Carlisle. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to Hospice of Spokane, PO Box 2215, Spokane WA 99210-2215 or the charity of your choice.
