Tom passed away April 22, 2012.
He was born August 15th, 1947 in Lewiston, ID, the son of Harvey and Bernita (Crossler) McCracken.
Tom spent his childhood in numerous small towns throughout Washington State.
In 1967, Tom was drafted for the Vietnam War and served in the United States Army 101st Airborne Division.
During his tour of duty, Tom was honored for his acts of heroism, valor and bravery with the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and two Bronze Stars.
Pa portrayed those characteristics in every part of his life.
In 1969, Tom met the love of his life, Dotti.
Not only did he fall in love with Dotti, he fell in love with her children whom he raised as his own.
Tom owned and operated various painting businesses throughout his life, including D and T Painting and Mac’s Painting.
In 1982, the family moved to Alaska for career opportunities where Tom made many lifelong friends.
The family returned to Spokane in 1987, and several years later Tom joined the painting crew with School District 81.
Pa died doing what he loved, riding his Harley on the open road.
Everyone could hear Tom rooting for the Cougs, Zags, and Seahawks.
Tom lived for fishing with his buddies, and especially loved to spend time with his family and friends at his family cabin at Loon Lake.
Pa will be remembered for his big heart, outgoing personality and celebrating life with family and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years Dotti in 2010 as well as his parents.
He is survived by his children Cindy Deiss (Tony), Tom Gronwold (Tammy), Tim Gronwold (Marlene), Todd McCracken (Lori), and Toby McCracken (Lacey).
Surviving grandchildren are Aaron Gronwold (Tricia), Justin Deiss, Missy Gronwold, Jerrad Deiss, Blane McCracken and Gage McCracken.
Surviving great-grandchildren are Zachery Gronwold, Dior Deiss, Malachi Chaney and Gavin Gronwold; his brothers Charlie and Pete McCracken and his sister Lois Pearson.
He will be greatly missed by his loving family and numerous friends.
Visitation will be Friday, April 27th from 12-5 pm and again on Saturday, from 9 am-2 pm, with the Memorial beginning at 2 pm, all at Hennessey Smith Funeral Home.
