In brief: Whitworth presents ‘Wizdom’ at the Bing

SPOKANE – Whitworth University will present “Wizdom: Making Dollars and Sense” at 7 p.m. on May 6 at the Bing Crosby Theater in downtown Spokane.

The production features student actors on stage with community actors who have lived in poverty and/or work with people who do. The characters build relationships across socio-economic boundaries.

The script is based on stories students heard in workshops from people who have faced poverty. The hour-long performance will be followed by a discussion with the actors and with director Brooke Kiener. Admission is free. For more information, call (509) 777-3707.

Wishing Star’s goat fundraiser returns

SPOKANE COUNTY – Wishing Star Foundation volunteers will continue to surprise members of the Spokane community during the annual Send a Friend a Goat fundraiser, today and Friday.

For a $50 donation to Wishing Star, people in Spokane will have the opportunity to play a practical joke on a friend or co-worker by sending a baby goat to their office or home. The recipient will be asked to make a donation to Wishing Star to pay for removal of the goat.

Honor Flight fundraiser will feature hot dogs

NEVADA/LIDGERWOOD – The Fairwinds Spokane Retirement Community, 520 E. Holland Ave., will have a community fundraiser for Inland Northwest Honor Flight on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Members of Fairwinds will serve hot dogs, chips and soda for a $5 requested donation and the Loewen Jazz Band will perform for visitors.

Proceeds will benefit Honor Flight, a program that takes World War II veterans to visit the memorial in Washington, D.C.
