Of Hayden, Idaho went home to our Heavenly Father on April 25, 2012.
He was born December 27, 1942 in Kellogg, Idaho to Michael and Dora Rossi.
He graduated from the University of Idaho with a B.S.
(Zoology) degree and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
He was married to Phyllis Harris on May 30, 1964.
Vince began a masters program but was then accepted to Loyola Dental School in Chicago and moved there in 1965.
He graduated from Loyola with a D.D.S.
degree in June of 1969.
His daughter, Valerie was born in Chicago in 1967.
While in school he worked many jobs - gandy dancer on the railroad, hay hauler, lab tech, scrub nurse, bartender, milkman, and hospital records supervisor.
He organized Loyola Dental School’s only city league football team where he played center and broke his hand his sophomore year.
He still managed to keep up his studies and lab work and graduated with his classmates.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Captain stationed at Clark Air Base, Philippine Islands from 1969-1971.
His daughters, Marianne and Michelle were born in the Philippines in 1970.
He traveled to Japan, India, Thailand, and Hong Kong while stationed there.
He served in a MASH unit and turned down an offer for graduate training in the military.
Dr.
Rossi started a solo practice in dentistry on December 6, 1971 with a leg in a cast he had broken playing basketball.
He retired in July of 2005 after turning his practice over to his nephew, Dr. Michael Bloom.
He had been President of the Idaho State Dental Association, a board member of that association and had also served on the Peer Review Board.
He had also served as President of the Hayden Lake Country Club, was appointed Mayor of the City of Hayden from 1991-1992, served on the City’s Planning and Zoning Board from 1999-2005, and served as Chairman of that board.
He was a Fellow in the dental honorary, American College of Dentists.
He also was a member of St. Pius X Parish and served as President of its Parish Council twice.
Vince enjoyed owning a ranch and raising cattle for 27 years with his partner, Joe Dobson.
He was a member of the Idaho Cattlemen’s Association as well as the National Cattlemen’s Association.
He loved coaching his daughters in softball and traveling the state watching all three of his daughter’s activities, ballgames, gymnastics, and cheerleading.
In 2001 he built a house in Libby, Montana on the Kootenai River where he enjoyed a retirement career guiding fly fishermen down the river.
He also built a shop at his home in Hayden where he enjoyed woodworking projects that he built for family and friends.
He loved skiing, fishing, golfing, woodworking, and playing the piano, but most of all he loved his family and was so proud of his daughters and their families.
He was very proud of his Italian heritage and traveled several times to Italy and Europe with Phyllis.
His favorite birthday celebration was a day of skiing with the whole family and a big pasta dinner after with many toasts of wine.
He was a very honest man, a loyal friend, loving husband, and devoted father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughters, Valerie and son-in-law, Andrew Rice, Michelle and son-in-law, Chris King, Marianne and son-in-law, Chris Morris; grandchildren, Megan Boie, Rachel and Drew Rice, Ben and Maddie Morris, and Emma and Kate King; brother, Rob Rossi and his wife, Barb; sister, Louise Rossi; sister-in-law, Ardith Birchmier and her husband, Wally; mother-in-law, Ruby Harris; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his stepmother, Alba Marra Rossi.
A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 28, 2012 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with YATES FUNERAL HOME in care of the arrangements.
Burial is at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.
