Red-White Game caps EWU’s spring football camp

Eastern Washington head football coach Beau Baldwin just put his offense in a big hole. That’s a good thing, because fans will be seeing a Red-White Spring Game today that includes a real score, even if the defense is spotted a few touchdowns to start. “I love the competitiveness when the team and staff are divided for a scrimmage,” said Baldwin, whose decision was partly influenced by limited depth at some positions. “We want to create a situation where it’s an offense versus a defense, and there is still a way to find a winner. “It’s tough to come up with an exact way to make it even, and there’s probably no right answer for that. But as long as you have a score on the scoreboard it creates the atmosphere of a true Red-White Game.” The annual Red-White Game kicks off at 2:05 p.m. at Roos Field, and is the last of 15 practices and scrimmages of the past four weeks. It precedes the 31st annual Orland Killin Dinner, Dance and Auction at EWU. In addition to starting off with points on the scoreboard, the  defense will be awarded points for interceptions, fumble returns, turnovers and sacks. Baldwin said no time clock will be kept and that ball placement for the offense will be determined by previous drives.
