Serena helps sister avoid temptation

From Wire Reports

Serena Williams says altering her diet in support of big sister Venus hasn’t been much of a hardship.

Serena said she’s cut down on eating chicken and fish and is eating more raw foods like Venus, who adopted the change to help her body cope with Sjogren’s syndrome, an autoimmune disease that can cause fatigue and joint pain. But while the new diet has been a big change for Venus, it’s not been that big a deal for Serena, she says.

“I’ve always been a better eater than her, even though I’m a lot, lot thicker,” she said, laughing during a recent interview.

Serena said since she lives with Venus, she is mindful to eat foods that won’t tempt her.

“I don’t want her to come home and see a piece of chicken and be like, ‘Oh, I want it,’ and she can’t have it. It would be like a stumbling block for her,” she added.

Both Serena and Venus have been back on the tennis court recently after dealing with health issues. Serena had ankle injuries this year and last year made her return after missing nearly a year because of several health concerns.

Symphony director healing from fall

Kurt Masur, the legendary former director of the New York Philharmonic, was recovering from injuries in a hospital on Friday after he fell off a podium during a concert in the French capital.

The 84-year-old Masur, who was conducting the National Orchestra of France on Thursday night, lost balance during a movement of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6. An orchestra spokeswoman said Friday that Masur is expected to be released “very soon” from Paris’ Pompidou hospital, following overnight tests.

Masur has been honorary musical director at the Paris-based orchestra since 2008.

They’ll always have Paris

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon say “I do” – again. A publicist for the pair says they renewed their vows Friday at the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Spokeswoman Cindi Berger said the couple celebrated with an “intimate ceremony after a romantic dinner at the beautiful Jules Verne restaurant” just after midnight local time.

Carey, 42, and Cannon, 31, married in the Bahamas in 2008 after a whirlwind romance that began just months earlier. Carey gave birth to their twins, son and daughter Moroccan and Monroe, last April.
