Father-son kayakers rescued from river

Spokane Valley firefighters rescued a man and his son Saturday.

The pair put their kayaks in the Spokane River near Stateline, according to Battalion Chief Stan Cooke with the Spokane Valley Fire Department, but had to be rescued after their kayaks became entangled in trees.

“They were wearing life jackets, but they were not prepared for cold water,” Cooke said. “They did have a whistle, which helped a lot.”

The whistle helped rescuers locate the father and son.

The Spokane Valley Fire Department got the call just before 4 p.m.

No one was injured.
