Norma June (Gillaspie) Smith (age 84) passed away April 24, 2012 in Spokane, Washington.

Norma was born November 17, 1927 at the family home in Ft. Collins, Colorado to Abe and Charlotte (Echinger) Gillaspie and lived in Colorado and Wyoming as
her father moved to find work during the depression.

In 1937 the family moved to Longview, Washington where she completed High School and then attended Lower Columbia Jr. College.

She married Robert Bruce (Bob) Smith on April 23, 1948 in Longview and came to Cheney in 1958.

Norma earned a Masters in Education from Eastern Washington University and worked as a teacher.

She is survived by her husband, Robert B. Smith at the home.

Children; Mallory Thomas, Steve Smith, Suzanne Smith and Jo Kallem Spaulding.

Grandchildren: Alexis, Connor, Jordan, Sarah, Drew, Emily and Michael.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Regal Elementary’s “Camp Reed Fund”, 2707 E. Rich Ave., Spokane, WA 99207 or the Cheney Food Bank in Mrs. Smith’s memory.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, at Cheney Funeral Chapel, 1632 W. 1st St., Cheney, WA.
