Obituary: Washburn, Vida R. (Virgin)
Vida R. (Virgin)
Peacefully left this world on Tuesday, April 24th, 2012 at the age of 95. Born on January 27th, 1917 in Spokane, WA to Raymond L. and Sadie T. Virgin. Vida’s early years were divided among Spokane, Roslyn and Valley, WA. She graduated from North Central High School in Spokane. As an adult, Vida lived in Spokane, WA, Auburn, WA, and Prescott, AZ. She came back to the Spokane area in 1983. Vida was very proud of the time she spent working at Boeing during WWII in the blueprint/drafting department. She loved living in her renovated one-room schoolhouse in the Rockford area. She was quick to share a smile and her blue eyes would twinkle in mischief. She was a loving wife, mother, nana/grandma and homemaker.
Survived by her brother, Ray Virgin, son, Warren Thomas and three daughters, Roberta Smith (Lyle Phillips), Ann Kalstad-Davis (Rich Davis), and Gail Currie (Chris Ramsey). Vida had ten grandchildren, Sherree, DeAnna, Darren, Dana, Yoko, Sadie, Kristy, Mariah, Joshua and RaeAnne. Also several great-grandchildren.
Vida was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William H. Washburn II; two sons, Bobby Jim Thomas and William H. Washburn III; and two siblings, Delbert Weeks and Betty Parker. Vida set a good example of life in this world. She set a challenging example of living a full and long life which will be hard to duplicate. We all like to believe that she is now doing what she loved most…..quilting and gardening by day and dancing under the stars that she can now see again by night. Memorial donations can be made to the Spokane County District 11 EMS (Rockford) or KSPS Public Broadcasting. Celebration of her life to be held at a later date.
