“JESSE OWENS: AMERICAN EXPERIENCE” – This fascinating new documentary recalls the legendary track and field athlete who wreaked havoc with Adolph Hitler’s goal of using the 1936 Berlin Olympics as a showcase for the superiority of Aryan athletes. In winning four gold medals at the Games, Owens captivated the world while infuriating the Nazis. But when he returned to America, he couldn’t even ride in the front of a bus and would go on to confront overt racism and financial hardship. The film, which includes insights from Owens’ daughters Beverly and Marlene, also taps into the fleeting quality of fame and the way we tend to idolize athletes when they suit our purpose, but forget them once they don’t. SUNDAY: The “TV Land Awards” is the one awards show that happily lives in the past. Among the honorees at the 10th annual event are “One Day at a Time,” “Laverne & Shirley,” “In Living Color” and Aretha Franklin. Kelly Ripa hosts. 9 p.m., TV Land.
MONDAY: The ghost of Charlie Harper makes a surprise appearance on “Two and a Half Men,” but don’t expect to see Charlie Sheen. In a delightfully twisted bit of casting, Kathy Bates plays the cigar-smoking spirit who visits Alan (Jon Cryer) in the hospital after he has a heart attack. 9 p.m., CBS.
MONDAY: It’s crossover time for “Hawaii Five-0” and “NCIS: Los Angeles” as special agents Hanna and Callen (LL Cool J, Chris O’Donnell) arrive in paradise to pursue a thug who is threatening to release a deadly virus into the population. The conclusion airs Tuesday on “NCIS: Los Angeles.” 10 p.m., CBS.
TUESDAY: After spending months dealing with their weighty issues, the Season 13 finalists of “The Biggest Loser” step on the scales for their final showdown. In addition, one of the show’s eliminated contestants will win the $100,000 at-home prize. 8 p.m., NBC.
TUESDAY: Snoop Dogg is the narrator for “Uprising: Hip Hop and the LA Riots.” It’s a documentary that examines the connection between the violence that occurred during four days of racial tension in 1992 in Los Angeles and the rage expressed by rappers such as NWA, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and others. 9 p.m., VH1.
WEDNESDAY: “Suburgatory” is a comedic gem that has mostly flown under the radar in its first season. In tonight’s episode, the relationship between George and Eden (Jeremy Sisto, Alicia Silverstone) gets more serious, so George wants to introduce her to Tessa (Jane Levy). Something tells us that won’t go well. 8:30 p.m., ABC.
THURSDAY: It’s prom night on “The Secret Circle,” and if TV has taught us anything over the years, it’s that proms usually lead to hangovers, mayhem and disaster. Don’t say we didn’t warn you. 9 p.m., The CW.
FRIDAY: Apparently, the jail house really does rock. On “Fairly Legal,” attorneys Kate and Ben (Sarah Shahi, Ryan Johnson) engage in a prison mediation and find it difficult to avoid their romantic feelings for one another. 9 p.m., USA.
SATURDAY: Eddie Izzard assumes the hammy role of Long John Silver in a new, two-part adaptation of “Treasure Island.” Also starring in the “edgier and darker” take on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic are Elijah Wood and Donald Sutherland. 7 p.m., Syfy.
