Inland Northwest stays in sun zone

The extended stretch of dry, sunny weather shows no sign of ending, the National Weather Service said today. Today’s high near 87 degrees in Spokane will be followed by a slight cooling trend on Thursday and Friday followed by a bit of a warm up over the weekend into early next week. A low pressure area from northern British Columbia is going to graze northeast Washington and North Idaho on Thursday and promises to bring a dry northerly flow for a couple of days at the end of the week along with some clouds. Then, the hot high pressure area that’s baked much of the country will re-assert its presence in the Pacific Northwest, but only marginally. Highs could reach 89 on Saturday and 92 on Sunday with temperatures dropping only by a couple of degrees on Monday and Tuesday. Moisture that brought thunderstorms two weeks ago is not seen as a threat so far. Spokane is now in its 11th day without precipitation.
