The Cathedral of St. Helena is on a hill facing Mount Helena, a city park with hiking trails. The cathedral and park are among a number of area attractions for visitors coming to Helena for an annual festival called the Western Rendezvous of Art.

Boat tours on the Missouri River take visitors through the Gates of the Mountains, an area noted in the journals of the Lewis and Clark expedition. The tours depart 17 miles north of Helena and are offered by the Gates of the Mountains company.
