Obituary: Oviatt, Mildred

Age 92

OVIATT,
Mildred
“Mike”
(Age 91)

Passed away on July 29, 2012 just 3 days short of her 92nd birthday.

She was born in 1920 in St. Louis, Missouri, of William and Palymyra Muehlberg.

Mike met the love of her life at a USO dance in 1943.

Alan was a young Lieutenant living in Forest Park with his division while on maneuvers in preparation for the invasion of Europe.

Mike and Alan were married in 1944 shortly before his unit deployed for further training and the eventual D-Day invasion.
After the war, Mike and Alan lived for a short time in Carthage, Missouri where their daughter, Deborah, was born.

Alan’s job then took them to Cape Girardeau, Jefferson City, and finally Mexico, Missouri.

When Alan and Mike retired in 1982 they moved to Spokane to be with their daughter, Deborah, her husband, Barry, and their four grandchildren.

Mike is preceded in death by her husband, Alan, and grandson, Ryan Alan Cross.
Mike is survived by her daughter, Deborah; son-in-law, Barry; grandchildren, Shannon Cross, Travis Cross, Robyn Cross Waltermire; and four great grandchildren, Meggie, Cyrus, Ryun and Ella Cross.
Mike spent many happy hours in her garden fussing with her flowers, shrubs and bushes.

She was quick to pull a plant that most of us would admire for its beauty but, to her, was past its prime.

Not many people had blooming Mums in August but to her, the petunias were long done and it was time for fall blooms.
Services for Mike will be held at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral home, 1306 North Pines Road in the Spokane Valley.

There will be a reception for Mike’s family and friends at the Cross home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Friends of Manito, 4 West 21st Avenue, Spokane, WA 99203.

The family would also like to thank the caregivers from St. Joseph’s Care Center and Spokane Hospice for their efforts these last few weeks.
