KEIZER, Ore. – The Spokane Indians came up with six runs in the eighth inning to tie the game only to fall 7-6 in 10 to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in a Northwest League baseball game Thursday night.
Designated hitter Ryan Rua’s grand slam sparked the sixth-run eighth inning as the Indians put together five consecutive hits to start the frame against reliever Keith Bilodeau, who had just entered the game. Cam Schiller and Barrett Serrato had RBI hits in the inning, but Mason McVay, the third Volcanoes pitcher of the inning, came in to strike out a pair and strand runners at second and third.
The Volcanoes scored the winning run in the 10th after Cody Kendall (3-5) walked Charles Jones and gave up a double to Dashenko Ricardo with one out to put runners on second and third. Josh McElwee relieved Kendall only to give up the winning single to Ryan Jones, the only batter he faced.
Rua and Schiller led the Indians with three hits apiece. Christopher Garia and Gabriel Roa added two each as the Indians rapped out 13 hits.
Connor Sadzeck started for the Indians and pitched three innings, giving up five runs – three earned. Shawn Blackwell had the best night of the five Indians pitchers who saw action, going three scoreless innings.
The teams conclude their series with a game at 7:05 tonight.
