Boise doctor dies competing in triathlon

Associated Press
BOISE — The director of Emmett’s Most Excellent Triathlon says a doctor at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise died Saturday while competing in the event. Director Ken Runyan told the Idaho Statesman that Matthew Sell was about 50 yards from the finish of the 0.9-mile swim leg when he stopped swimming for unknown reasons and rescuers moved in and put a breathing device on him. Runyan says Sell was flown to Walter Knox Memorial Hospital in Emmett. Runyan says the race continued with about 500 competitors taking part in the triathlon now in its 11th year. Besides the swimming leg, the race also has a 6.2-mile run and 24-mile bike leg.
