Firepower is the point

I have to take issue with Lisa Benson for her July 25 cartoon showing the Aurora, Colo., theater assailant stripped of his mask, guns and ammo. She says that he is still a ticking time bomb. She apparently missed the point.

Without the guns and 1,000 rounds of ammo, this man would not have succeeded in murdering 12 people and assaulting 71 others. Without these weapons, we might expect to see him trying to slap these people to death. Even if he knew martial arts, he might be able to take one or two people down before being rushed by other people and hauled away by the police. Or at least all the others would have gotten away without injuries.

With the weapons he had, these poor people did not have a chance.
