In brief: Fundraiser to benefit crash victim, musician Yeoman

SPOKANE VALLEY – Daley’s Cheap Shots, 6412 E. Trent Ave., will host “Blues for Yo,” a benefit for Gary Yeoman on Sunday, from 3 p.m. to midnight.

The event will feature live music from Sammy Eubanks, Bakin’ Phat, Pat Coast and Cary Fly. Attendees can also enjoy food, drinks and raffles.

Cost is a suggested donation of $10 per person. Yeoman, Spokane Valley blues musician, was injured in a motorcycle accident and proceeds from the fundraiser will help pay for his medical costs.

View ‘Puss in Boots’ Saturday night at Mirabeau Meadows

SPOKANE VALLEY – Mirabeau Meadows Park will have a family event next Saturday with a summer outdoor movie.

The pre-movie fun will begin an hour before sunset with family activities; when the sun goes down, “Puss in Boots” will play on an inflatable screen. There’s plenty of room for families to be comfortable and spread out and the screen is large enough for all to see. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and snacks for a festive family night under the stars.

Liberty Lake council Sunday retreat open to the public

LIBERTY LAKE – The Liberty Lake City Council will hold a council retreat Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Spokane Valley Fire Department administration building, 2120 N. Wilbur Road.

Among the items to be discussed is the comprehensive plan, the capital facilities plan, TIF/LIFT funding and the utility tax. The meeting is open to the public.

Youth symphony plans concert Thursday

DOWNTOWN – The Spokane Youth Symphony will perform the Sensational Summer Festival at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Lilac Bowl in Riverfront Park.

The free performance will kick start the 2012-’13 season. The concert will be conducted by Julian Gomez-Giraldo.
