Age 94


HOWERTON, Roy

Roy Howerton was born on July 29, 1918 in Culdesac, Idaho and died August 7, 2012 in Spokane Valley, WA.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jackie Howerton; his sister Helen (Phil) Felice ; his children Kathy (Jim) Hawley, Anita Howerton, Janice (Stu) Benshoof, Gail (Dennis) Anderson, Margie Matthews, Ron (Sherry) Howerton, Dick (Angela) Howerton, and Patsy (Bill) Stockwell; 15 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a WWII veteran who entered active service on December 25, 1942.

He deployed to the South Pacific Theater where he served with the 24th Medical Battalion.

He was stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines for 31 months serving as a litter bearer, automotive mechanic, and transportation NCO Staff Sergeant.

He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, and Bronze Service Arrowhead.
Roy met his wife of 63 years on a blind date in Spokane, WA.

They had a loving life together along with their eight children.

He worked for 7-Up Bottling Co. for 37 years.

The passions of his life were his family, gardening, fishing, hunting, and teasing anyone within range.
Roy, Dad, and Papa “Birdie” was the love of our lives.

A viewing will take place on Sunday, August 12, at 5:00pm at the funeral home, followed by a Rosary Vigil at 6:00p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, August 13, at 10:00a.m.

at St. Paschal Catholic Church.

2523 N. Park Rd.

followed by a Graveside Service at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Reception to follow at St. Paschal’s.
