Bear that killed lambs moved to remote area

Associated Press

HELENA – Federal and state wildlife officials have trapped and moved a grizzly bear that killed two domestic lambs near Flescher Pass, southwest of Lincoln, Mont.

USDA Wildlife Services crews trapped the 350-pound male grizzly on Aug. 1 after the livestock kills were confirmed. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks employees collared and relocated the bear the next day in a remote area of the Flathead National Forest.

State bear management specialist Jamie Jonkel said this was the bear’s first offense with livestock, so they decided to move it with the hope it will pursue natural food sources.
