Age 88
OSLUND, Lucille Ruby
Long time resident of Spokane, died in Spokane Hospice House on August 5.
She was born on September 26, 1923 in Marmarth, North Dakota to Christine (Ackerman/Gustafson) Olson and Alvin Olson.
Lucille was married to Gus Oslund for 63 years, who preceded her in death in 2004.
Lucille’s family moved from Marmarth to Mullan, Idaho in 1928 and she graduated from Mullan High School.
During World War II she worked as a draftsman in the Long Beach Naval Shipyards in California.
She lived briefly in Coeur D Alene, Idaho before moving to Spokane in the late 1940’s.
Lucille had a strong personality and a strong heart.
She was a perfectionist, an accomplished seamstress, pinochle player, avid reader, Spokane Symphony supporter, and an awesome cookie baker.
Her angel food cakes were legendary.
Lucille was a dedicated volunteer with RSVP and the American Heart Association.
Lucille loved being out-of-doors hiking with the Hobnailers Hiking Club.
She hiked 15,354 miles with the club over the years, and completed 30 Bloomsday Races.
Lucille valued education and was proud that her three daughters graduated from college.
She enjoyed traveling, especially with the Alpha Omega Tours.
Lucille is survived by three daughters - Janet, Karen Gill, and Betty Chavira; granddaughter Kristy Gill; grandsons David and Michael Gill; sons-in-law Bernie Gill Jr. and Martin Chavira; and brothers LeRoy, Robert, Kenneth, and Bill.
Donations in Lucille’s name may be made to Hospice of Spokane or Rails-to-Trails.
At Lucille’s request, no services will be held.
