Concussions lead two players to give up football
UCLA linebacker Patrick Larimore (pictured) is giving up football because of concussions. Larimore suffered a concussion last week during preseason practice. He also had a concussion during spring practice. Larimore, a 6-foot-2, 250-pound senior, led the Bruins in tackles last season. Also on Monday, Minnesota sophomore offensive lineman Jimmy Gjere announced his decision to end his football career due to the recurrence of concussion-like symptoms. Last season, Gjere started the first five games at right tackle until suffering the head injury at Michigan on Oct. 1. He was bothered by dizziness throughout the rest of the fall and didn’t play again, but he was cleared for full activity this summer and was competing for the starting spot again until the symptoms returned. –AP
