Obituary: Doler, Robert Earl


DOLER, Robert Earl

Robert “Bob” Earl Doler died August 10, 2012, at his home in Coeur d’Alene after a five-year battle with cancer.

He was 65.
He was born January 23, 1947, in Rockledge, Fla., to Earl Lemar Doler and Ardith Maybelle (Snell) Doler.

Bob is survived by his wife of 25 years, Marian (Hopkins) Doler of Coeur d’Alene; brother William Doler of Homer, Ala.; sisters Becky Doler of Seal Rock, Ore., and Belinda Doler of Portland, Ore.; his children, Jennifer “Shea” Wills of Liberty Lake, Wash., Tralen Doler of New York City, Alex Doler of Coeur d’Alene, Jordann Doler of Coeur d’Alene, Amy (Wright) MacClanathan of Renton, Wash., and Darcy Wright of New York City; sons-in-law Marcus Wesche and Ryan MacClanathan; grandchildren Bailey Wills, Jaelyn Wesche, and Duncan and Finn MacClanathan; and many other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bonnie Doler and brother Brian Doler.
Bob spent most of his early years in Indiana.

He moved with his family to Alamosa, Colo., where he attended high school, graduating in 1964.

Bob attended Adams State College in Alamosa where he played the French horn.

In 1966, he moved with his family to Oregon.

He attended Oregon State University in Corvallis, graduating in 1971 with a bachelor’s of science in geology.

He transferred to the University of Idaho, graduating in 1978 with a master’s in geology.

Over the years he had an illustrious career as a certified professional geologist, working at places such as Hecla Mining Co., Placer Dome, Strata Inc., Sunshine Mine, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and North Idaho College, where he taught geology.


Bob enjoyed music, collecting rocks, hunting, fishing and the outdoors, but his biggest passion in life was his family.

He loved encouraging others and making everyone feel good about themselves.

He touched the lives of all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 17, at New Life Community Church, 6068 W. Hayden Ave., Rathdrum.
