NELSON, Lelyn August
(Age 74)

Lelyn passed away peacefully on August 12, 2012 surrounded by family in Spokane.

Lelyn was born in Bowman, ND on August 10, 1938, the son of August and Frieda Nelson and lived on the family farm until joining USAF.

Stationed at Fairchild Lelyn met Jerre Jordan of Spokane and after a whirlwind romance, married.

Soon the home was filled with four children Scott of Spokane, Steve (Lori) of Post Falls, Rhonda (Bob) of Spokane, Todd (Tina) of Spokane.

Leyln retired Civil Service as Superintendent of All Maintenance Departments at Fairchild AFB; is a past President of the Fairchild’s Employees Union, and was the owner of several rental properties in Spokane and Moses Lake area.

At 55 years young Lelyn started a second career in farming in Bowman, ND, which was his dream to enjoy the area where he had grown-up.

Never longing for the Dakota winters Phoenix became his home in the winter months.

With an on-going need to travel to see what was around the next bend, retirement was great!

Always adventurous, Lelyn never slowed down, always with something to DO!

He had a great sense of humor, quick smile and laugh that was infectious to all that knew him.

Being a farmer at heart, life was balanced with work and play.

Always a Pro at a game of cards especially with his grandkids, marathon cribbage games with brother-in-law Ken and also trying to beat his sister Myrna in cards!

With always a love for family Lelyn embraced everything in life to its fullest!

He truly will be missed by all who had known him.

He is survived by wife Brenda; sister-in-law Becky Dragoo (David) special thanks; step-son Alex Lidstone; brother Aldean; sisters Myrna Weber, Karen (Ken) Shultenburg; grandchildren Ryan (Sabrina), Randy, Melissa, Kristie (Chad), Zach, Sarah and a great-grandchild Avery.

A Memorial Service will be held at 7:30pm Wednesday August 15, 2012 at All Saints Lutheran Church, 314 South Spruce, in Browne’s Addition, Spokane.
