Best bet on the Tube

The United States will be trying to beat Mexico in Mexico for the first time when the region’s powers meet in an exhibition game today ( 4:30 p.m. on ESPN2). The Americans are 0-23-1 against El Tri in Mexico, including 0-19-1 in the thin air at altitude in Mexico City. Both teams are preparing for World Cup qualifiers next month, with the U.S. playing Jamaica twice. Mexico is celebrating its gold medal in the Olympics last weekend, a triumph for its under-23 team. U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann said there is a gap between the two nations in soccer. The U.S. didn’t qualify for the tournament that Mexico won. – AP
