In brief: T-shirt, legume sales to help food bank

From Staff Reports

Pacific Northwest Co-op Specialty Foods plans to raise money for Second Harvest food bank by selling T-shirts and bags of legumes during the upcoming National Lentil Festival.

The lentil festival is Friday and Saturday in Pullman.

For every $15 shirt sold, the farmers co-op will donate $3 to Second Harvest. Every $10 bag of lentils, garbanzo beans or green split peas sold will result in a $4 to the food bank. The PNW Co-op Specialty Foods booth will be at the lentil festival on Saturday.

Glenrose summer market planned

The Glenrose community is sponsoring a summer market to gauge interest in a new neighborhood farmers market.

The event is 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 21 at 37th Avenue and Fancher Road.

The Glenrose area had been a farming and orchard area and organizers of the market hope to rekindle interest in local foods, art and music. The market is sponsored by two nonprofit groups, the Glenrose Association and Community Solutions Northwest.

Organizer Barbara Baumgarten said if there is enough interest they could continue markets this year, or start a weekly market next season.
