Nothing hateful happened

Kristen Michaelis (Letters, Aug. 11) sure switched sides fast! One minute she is a Christian in support of the Chick-fil-A founder’s right to state his personal opinion about marriage in a Christian publication, but after seeing a Facebook post asking why Christians don’t come out in droves to serve at homeless shelters, she realizes that the entire Christian “movement” is actually an anti-gay hate group.

She implies that people who came out in support of Chick-fil-A were there as a sign of hatred toward the gay community, yet she supported this also (at first). Why can’t she believe that they came in support of free speech (since the company was being boycotted because the founder expressed a personal opinion with which the “tolerant left” disagrees)?

She doesn’t mention that in response to the Chick-fil-A support, gay rights activists staged a kiss-in in front of the restaurant chain.

I wish someone would explain what is so hateful and anti-gay about buying a chicken sandwich from a company with no anti-gay policies, or how getting together to make out in front of a chicken restaurant promotes gay rights, because I just don’t get it.

Maybe I will find the answer on Facebook.
