Whom does she represent?

Cathy McMorris Rodgers has returned home requesting our votes, but who does she represent – Eastern Washington voters or the Republican Party establishment?

McMorris Rodgers recently joined party elites in refusing to extend tax breaks for low- and middle-income families unless she could cut taxes on the wealthiest 2 percent as well. This will deepen the deficit, leaving middle class families to make up the difference.

Our friends and families are struggling. We have sacrificed enough. Why is our representative siding with Wall Street elites, and leaving her own constituents to foot the bill?

Our communities are strong because at one time, we understood that those who realized their American dream were obligated to pay it forward to ensure the long-term prosperity of our country. Taxes are at their lowest rates in 30 years. Middle class family savings are being gutted, while wealthy elites rig the system to avoid their responsibility. The fabric of our community is ripping at the seams.

Eastern Washington communities work hard and play by the rules. It’s time for McMorris Rodgers to stand with her constituents and ask the rich to work with the community instead of against it.
