Passed away August 11, 2012 in Spokane, WA, her home Cheney, WA .

She was born: October 4, 1937 at the Deaconess Hospital in Spokane, Washington First child born to Walter A. and Ellen (Hill) Wilbur.

She attended Davenport Schools graduating in 1955 as Salutatorian of her class.

Doris attended Washington State College and graduated from the University of Idaho Cum Laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Society.

She married Jerome (Jerry) H. Jantz May 20th, 1956.

She and Jerry had two sons: Curtis Allyn Jantz born April 3, 1958 and Brian Jerome Jantz born July 22, 1960.

In July of 1999 Doris became the grandmother to Landon Allen Jantz.

After leaving Davenport in 1965 to Moscow, Idaho, the family moved to Cheney in May of 1970 upon purchasing the Cheney Free Press as part of the Times Publishing Company in Davenport, Washington.

She taught school at Blair Elementary on base at Fairchild starting in the fall of 1970, teaching grade levels first, second and third grades for 30 years, retiring in 2000.

Doris’ dream job was loving and teaching children.

Upon retirement she and Jerry traveled often and in recent years spent the winter months in California and Arizona.

Doris was a member of First Presbyterian Church in downtown Spokane.

Surviving Doris is her husband Jerome H. (Jerry) Jantz of Cheney; sons Curtis Allyn Jantz of Portland, Oregon, and Brian Jerome Jantz of Berlin, Wolfgang Jantz of Berlin, Germany; grandson Landon Allen Jantz of Portland, Oregon; brother David Wilbur and wife Linda of Spokane, brother Don Wilbur and wife Nancy of Spokane; sisters-in-law Joyce Stubbs of Spokane and Helen Jantz of Davenport; brother-in-law Kenneth Jantz of Orlando, Florida; nieces Jene Fisher and husband James of Spokane, Dr. Leslie Stubbs of Boise, Idaho, Lisa Schultz of Boise, Idaho, Kandee Sabo and husband Steve of Spokane Valley, Kimberly Hansen and husband Darren of Davenport, Kathy Rhodes and husband Robert of Seattle, Melinda Nubla and husband Joey of Orlando, Florida, Renee Davis and husband Darren of Spokane Valley; nephews Dameon Wilbur of Spokane, Dr. Michael Jantz of Tallahassee, Florida, Scott Wilbur of McCall, Idaho and Brad Stubbs and wife Margretta of Wheaton, Maryland; aunt Irma King of Spokane plus numerous grandnieces and nephews.

Preceding Doris in death were her parents, Walter A. and Ellen Wilbur, brother-in-law Charles Leonard Stubbs, sister-in-law Carolee Jantz, brother-in-law Donald L. Jantz.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 20, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar, Spokane, WA 99201.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Davenport High School Alumni Scholarship Program at PO Box 196, Davenport, Washington 99122.
