Obituary: Oxford, Gary Craig
Gary Craig Oxford was born August 6, 1953 in Spokane, WA to Keith and Leah Oxford. He passed away July 10, 2012 in Spokane Valley, WA with family near by.
Gary began his education at Seth Woodard Elementary/Pasadena Park Elementary, and graduated from Central Valley High School in 1971 where he played B baseball and was a baseball manager.
Gary joined the USN after graduation. He served aboard several ships including the USS Monticello and the USS Camden, seeing much of the world. His Navy career was cut short by a motorcycle/ auto accident in Florida. After a long recovery, he returned to Spokane and attended SFCC graduating with honors from the Orthotic-Prosthetic Technology Program. He was employed in Everett, WA for a time, then returned to Spokane and worked in the produce department for Tidyman’s when he became disabled from complications from old wounds. Gary was diagnosed with cancer in February 2012. He never gave up the fight to survive a battle he wouldn’t win.
Gary was an excellent cook. He also loved eagles, Harleys, watching sports, French vanilla lattes and his devoted dog, Princess, but most of all, he loved his son, Laremie.
Gary is predeceased by both sets of grandparents, uncle Donald Oxford, aunt Dalice Hutchings, and cousin Michael Maine. He is survived by his son Laremie (Powers), parents Keith and Leah Oxford, brother Randal Oxford, sister Tamara O’Marro (Robert), nieces Angela and Alyssa, nephews Justin and Evan, 12 great-nieces and nephews, two uncles, one aunt and six cousins.
A service is scheduled for August 24, 2012, 3:00 PM at the Washington State Veterans Military Cemetery at Medical Lake, WA.
